What We Did

Packaging Design + Print + Documentary

Don’t you love it when a client asks you for more work? After creating the company branding for ‘The Nine Muses’ - a high-end fine art specialist - this time we were asked to produce The Peter Howson ‘Brother Walfrid’ Limited Edition Box Set.

What was the project?

The boxset was to raise awareness - and money for charity - about this relatively unknown but significant figure. A humble humanitarian, Brother Walfrid was one of the founding fathers of Celtic F.C. in the 19th Century. He worked in some of the poorest communities in Glasgow (and laterally London), providing food and education to children.

It’s all about luxury

As it was a limited edition boxset, we needed it to be special. Designed with a ‘twin opening’ lid, once opened, the box revealed a limited edition print, certificate of authenticity and DVD documentary inside. The case was made from a stunning textured material of black Lizard Pellaq from Winter & Co.

Creating a dramatic impact, the face of the box featured an enclosed framed reproduction of the print, which was 3D embossed matt laminated and spot varnished. There was also some gold and red metallic foils on the case and print, with red ribbons built into the box, making it easy to open and close.

Right in the centre of the box, there was an elevated platform to hold the signed and numbered limited edition print in position. On the right-hand panel, an open box with metallic gold foil card box held the DVD documentary.

We even designed the bottom of the box!

The base of the boxed also contained an enclosed printed image. An A6 mono version of the Peter Howson ‘Brother Walfrid’ image was printed in metallic gold onto a black base card - giving a wonderful ‘bronzed’ impression.
